"Santorum Misleads Public with WMD Claim"
LP, Progressive U, June 23, 2006

ANALYSIS:
Okay, let’s look at LP (from Progressive U)’s argument: LP quotes Santorum as saying, "We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons." What was the liberal response to this discovery? "Those aren’t the right WMD’s." Come on! WMD’s are WMD’s. So what if they’re not nuclear? Remember, we were searching for "pre-Gulf War chemical munitions," and that’s exactly what these are. Do they really think that sarin and mustard gas are not dangerous WMD’s?

LP closes his editorial with the question, "Why would Santorum make such a huge lie?" What "huge lie?" He said they found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They did. He said they were chemical weapons. They were. Where is the lie?

The lie is LP’s and his "progressive" friends. They’ve been claiming all along that President George W. Bush lied about Iraq having WMD’s and now they have been proven wrong (the biggest liars are usually the ones pointing fingers at the innocent). We already knew that Iraq had WMD’s since Saddam Hussein actually used them in the 1990’s, but the leftists didn’t want to be confused with the facts. Saddam claimed that all their chemical weapons had been destroyed in 1991, despite the intelligence reports that said otherwise. The liberals —oops, I mean "progressives"— cried "liar, liar" to the point that the intelligence reports were declared faulty, even by the Bush Administration.

Everybody wanted evidence. They said, "Show me the money. Where’s the smoking gun?" Well, here it is. We’ve finally delivered what they’ve been claiming never existed and suddenly Bush’s "lies" have been proven to be truths. But those that don’t simply ignore the story (as did the LA Times) continue to bury their heads in the coarse, middle-eastern sand. I guess that beats having them sawed off by the terrorists that they’re so opposed to bringing to justice.

DISSECTING THE 'TOON:

First I found a background image of a nuclear explosion. I found this one at http://www.funnypix.ca/d/3501-2/nuke.jpg

I imported it into Microsoft Picture It! Photo Premium 9 and expanded the canvas around the image to 800x600 pixels, double the standard size of the final cartoon's dimensions. I then copied a section of the black background and pasted it behind the image, rendering the entire background a solid black.

Then I found images of a donkey and an elephant. I found these ones at respectively.

I meticulously used Microsoft Picture It! Photo Premium 9's custom select tool to outline the heads by hand and delete the space surrounding them. By saving the new images in .gif format, the deleted backgrounds became transparent.

You may also notice a thin white line around each of the cropped images. This was due to resizing. So I did an extreme zoom-in on each image and cropped the edges a bit closer, yielding the cleanly-edited heads on the final rendition of the cartoon.

I imported each of the new .gif images into my previously-created background and placed them strategically in the foreground. I "cloned" the heads multiple times, layering them in a spiral and used the gaussian blur tool to give them the illusion of motion.

Then I placed the speech balloons into the image, placing the text inside them. I've found that I prefer the Comics Sans Serif font in boldface in my speech balloons. Next, I imported my previously-designed PolyTicks® logo (also in .gif format) and placed it in the upper-left section of the panel. Finally, I placed the copyright text and website address along the bottom border.

Once I had the individual elements placed where I wanted them, I resized the image to the standard 400x300 pixels and saved it in .jpg format. It was then ready to upload to the website and publish. And here is the final result:

And that's how I created this week's PolyTicks® cartoon.
